I BELIEVE
Newsletter #80 / March, 10 2025
I am not a Liberal, and I am not a Conservative. I am not a Progressive, or a Moderate, or any other label that people use. I am an American. I believe in Democracy, and the Golden Rule. I believe that human rights are just that: human, neither Left nor Right, not given to politics at all.
I believe that all people are created equal is the founding principle of American democracy. I believe in the opening words of the Declaration of Independence, the spirit that has served our nation as a North Star for 250 years: that every American, regardless of who they are, where they live, or what they believe, is entitled to Freedom, Justice, and Opportunity in equal measure.
I believe this is the real purpose of government, to bring these things about. And so I will forever vote for the candidate that best serves these interests, regardless of party, for these interests are America’s interests. They are, indeed, America’s future.
I am a Democrat because for the short time since its founding in 1932, the Democratic Party has the best served these things, because it has done the most to move us towards a truly just society.
But above all, I am an American, dedicated to these core principles of Democracy that have served as our shining light since 1776: the values expressed in the Democratic Creed. I am an American, and so I will stand up for Democracy, and the principles of Freedom, Justice, and Opportunity, regardless of politics. I will stand up for them, proudly, and I will fight for them until they become a reality.
An American
A message to activists
Values and vision are not idealism, not unless you choose to see them that way. Having an emotional identity that unites and inspires, that motivates people to come together and act, that is power, plain and simple.
MAGA understands this. As evil and false as they may be, that sense of common values and vision is exactly what powers their base. For us, creating an even more powerful identity .. one that goes on to unite, not just Democrats, but unaffiliated and disaffected voters as well .. is the single driving force that can lead us out of the current wilderness we inhabit.
Yes, these values and vision have to take practical root in our daily lives. They have to become the bedrock underneath the protests that are only now beginning to start. And these same values need to become an integral part of our daily conversations with the people we know. We have to make these things real.
