Confuse!
Newsletter #74 / January, 13 2025
Confusion is coming, a massive, nationwide sense of it. Buy Greenland? Seize the Panama Canal? Deport millions of illegal immigrants, all at once? Crazy? A bluff? Simple diversion? Nobody knows, and that’s the point: uncertainty. The same with the ever expanding conspiracy theories and the wild allegations. If nothing is true, then nothing is false, and this is just the beginning. Once Trump is sworn in, we are headed into a period of chaos and confusion that will veer at times towards anarchy. This is Trump 2.0. This is Trump, the Victory Tour. More and more, nobody will know what to believe. And it isn’t just Trump. The equally erratic people that surround him will continue to push their equally erratic agendas as well. Piled on top will be the huge, well-financed, Right-wing media campaign, pushing out competing versions of reality.
And then there’s our own party. Who’s in charge? That’s a question with no answer. And what are we doing? The finger-pointing has already started, and in the wake of obvious disaster, we’re being inundated with endless, competing “fixes” that are really about campaign strategy and messaging. “It’s about the economy, stupid.” “Focus on health care.” “Attack the billionaire class.” “It’s all about the blue collar vote.” And running through all of that will be the cry of “Resistance!”, an emotional demand for our attention that will lead us right back into the craziness Trump creates.
Confusion, that’s exactly what’s coming. By this summer, no one will literally know what to believe. And the result? More and more folks will be turned off politics, recoiling from the inundation of hype and spin and downright propaganda, and that will only add to the confusion.
But, in that confusion lies an enormous opportunity. The coming chaos will create an incredible hunger for something true. People will be desperate for firm ground to stand on, something to believe in that is bigger than politics, something that just makes sense. They already are.
That is why the Democratic Creed exists. That is why the definitions of Freedom, Justice, and Opportunity were written. Because they are true. Because they are universal American values, because even Republicans recognize them. This is a moment, and we have to seize it.
A movement is exploding across this country as you read this, a grassroots demand for Democrats to stand up as champions of these same American values. This is why Democrats 101 exists, not for political purposes, but quite simply to create an identity that will overshadow politics, an identity that will not only lead to a Democratic supermajority, but to a just society … as long as it takes.
This starts with you. It starts by drawing a line in the sand. Stand up publicly and adopt the Democratic Creed. Join your brother and sister county-level organizations all across this country in taking a stand. Do it with pride. Embrace the definitions of Freedom, Justice, and Opportunity. Make these American values the things you talk about first, above everything else, relentlessly. Passion and repetition carry the day. Become the champion of American values in the eyes of your neighbors. That is the first step, and it’s the big one.
But this isn’t about a quick fix, this is about a permanent fix, so that first step has to lead to action. Yes, more is coming. A dynamic action plan for rural counties will be released soon, a hands-on, two-year strategy to change election results in 2026. Look for it. Sign on to it.
But don’t wait. The crisis is now. The hunger for Truth is now. The need to implant the American values inherent in the Democratic Creed and the definitions of Freedom, Justice, and Opportunity, is now.
Step up and adopt the Democratic Creed. Spread the book to everyone you know. Begin discussions with your own people, begin asking the real questions that need answers (you’ll find them at the end of the book). Then reach out and join us in spreading this movement coast to coast.
